3D kidney surgery performed for the first time at ESOGU

The first 3-dimensional (3D) kidney tumor surgery at Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGU) Hospital was performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Barbaros Başeskioğlu, Faculty Member of ESOGU Faculty of Medicine, Department of Urology.

Speaking about the surgery, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Barbaros Başeskioğlu said, "Today, with the 3D Laparoscopic Surgery system, operations have started to be performed in much better quality and in a short time. The 3D system gets rid of the high cost of the robot and gives patients the chance to perform safer surgery at a much lower cost, shortens the surgeon's learning time in simulated surgical models, and provides increased speed and accuracy. The 3D imaging solution is a fusion of advanced 3D technologies that overcome the shortcomings of conventional 3D imaging systems, giving surgeons a new perspective. It has been observed that in the system where depth perception is created with 3D glasses, operations are performed as if the patient is inside the patient, every part of the operation area can be reached as if watching a 3D movie due to the excellent imaging, blood vessels can be better distinguished and thus bleeding is almost non-existent. With this method, laparoscopic prostate cancer and kidney cancer complete or partial operations are performed more comfortably and in a shorter time than before."
