'Smart Biopsy' increases the percentage of diagnosis in prostate cancer, the fearful dream of men

Urology Specialist Prof. Dr. Barbaros Başeskioğlu, who emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in prostate cancer, the incidence of which increases in men at advanced ages, said, "MR (Magnetic Resonance) fusion biopsy, also known as 'Smart Biopsy', enables sampling from tissue foci that may be cancerous. Thus, it increases the success rate in the diagnosis of prostate cancer."
Early diagnosis is of great importance in prostate cancer, which is seen in one out of every 3 men after the age of 50 worldwide and is one of the most lethal cancers. Smart Biopsy, one of the new methods, increases the success rate in early diagnosis and accordingly in the right treatment. Thanks to the method, also known as MR fusion biopsy, multi-slice images of the prostate can be examined and suspicious parts can be marked. In this way, samples are taken from tissue foci that may be cancerous.
Acıbadem Eskişehir Hospital Urology Specialist Prof. Dr. Barbaros Başeskioğlu said that men should not neglect their annual urology examinations starting from the age of 45 for early diagnosis. Reminding that the prostate gland is defined as the gland tissue that is found only in men and where some of the semen produced to protect the vitality of the sperm produced in the testicles is produced, Başeskioğlu said, "Clinical studies show that a 50-year-old man has a 40 percent risk of developing prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men after lung cancer, but it can be successfully treated thanks to early diagnosis. For early diagnosis, it is important for those who have a family history of prostate cancer to apply to a urologist for prostate examination once a year after the age of 45 and those who do not have a family history of prostate cancer after the age of 50."

"No symptoms in the first stage"
Stating that prostate cancer, which does not cause symptoms in the early stages of the disease, leads to various complaints in the later stages, Başeskioğlu said, "Symptoms such as frequent urination at night, burning and pain during urination, delay in starting urination, continuation of urine flow drop by drop at the end or intermittent urination are seen. Blood in the urine should also bring prostate cancer to mind. In the later stages of the disease, excessive weight loss and general weakness can be seen in addition to relatives due to the spread of cancer to other organs."

"Smart biopsy increases the percentage of diagnosis"
Speaking about the features of MR fusion biopsy, which is a more effective method in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, Eskişehir Acıbadem Hospital Urology specialist Prof. Dr. Barbaros Başeskioğlu said, "MRFusion biopsy method is a 'smart biopsy' method with high sensitivity, which detects foci with suspected cancer in the prostate and enables point shooting for these targets. In the procedure, multislice MR images of the prostate are first examined and suspicious foci are marked. MR images are then processed with the help of special software and combined with ultrasound images and the images are made three-dimensional. The biopsy needle is directed to the marked suspicious points under sedation (relaxing) anesthesia and a targeted procedure is performed. With this method, instead of taking samples from uncertain areas, biopsies are performed in the areas suspected in MR examination within the prostate. Thanks to early and accurate diagnosis, the most appropriate treatment process is planned for the patient. This enables the patient to be fully treated and improves the quality of life."
