Prostate MR Fusion Biopsy

MR-fusion biopsy is a highly sensitive method for diagnosing prostate cancer. It provides a more accurate and guided biopsy compared to conventional prostate biopsies. This method makes it possible to perform a guided biopsy of prostate tissue using combined magnetic resonance imaging (MR) and real-time ultrasound imaging technologies.

MR-fusion biopsy first involves taking a detailed MR image of the prostate. These images are analyzed to identify possible foci of cancer within the prostate. It is then blended with these MR images during real-time ultrasound imaging to guide the biopsy needle towards the identified target area of the prostate. This allows precise tissue samples to be taken from areas where prostate cancer is suspected.

Advantages

  • High Sensitivity: MR-fusion biopsy can detect and target foci of prostate cancer more precisely. This increases the accuracy of prostate cancer diagnosis.
  • Less Random Biopsy: As with traditional prostate biopsies, random tissue samples are not taken during MR-fusion biopsy. Instead, a directed biopsy is performed on identified areas of suspected cancer.
  • Fewer Complications: MR-fusion biopsy is a less invasive method compared to traditional prostate biopsies. Therefore, it is usually associated with fewer complications.
Better Patient Comfort: Compared to conventional prostate biopsies, MR-fusion biopsy is usually associated with less discomfort and pain.

Applicable Conditions:

It can be used for diagnostic purposes in patients with suspected prostate cancer.

It can be used for follow-up and monitoring of prostate cancer treatment.

MR-fusion biopsy has greatly improved the diagnosis and follow-up of prostate cancer. This method plays an important role in the treatment planning of patients by enabling more accurate diagnosis and guided biopsy.
